Find resume keyword gaps before you apply

Keyword gaps are skills, tools, or phrases the job description emphasizes that your resume never mentions — or only buries. Closing honest gaps is one of the highest-leverage edits before you apply.

How to find them

  1. Copy the JD into a plain text view and list repeated nouns (tools, methods, domains).
  2. Search your resume for each term. Mark absent, skills-only, or evidenced in experience.
  3. Prioritize terms that appear in “required” sections and show up more than once.

What not to do

Do not paste the entire JD into a skills block. Add keywords only where your work history can support them in an interview.
