Privacy Policy
Version 1.0 · Effective Date: August 2026
This policy describes what JD VS Resume actually collects and does with your data today. It is written to be accurate, not generic — if something below changes as the product changes, this page needs to be updated at the same time.
Who we are
JD VS Resume ("we", "us") is operated by JDVSResume. This policy applies to the JD VS Resume web application at jdvsresume.com.
Information we collect
We collect the following, and nothing beyond it:
- Account information — when you sign in, our authentication provider (Clerk) collects your email address and manages your login. We don't independently store your password; Clerk handles that.
- Your resume — the file you upload (PDF or Word), and everything our system extracts from it: your name, contact details, work history, education, skills, certifications, and any embedded images (such as certification badges).
- Job descriptions — the text of any job description you paste in to compare against your resume or generate a tailored version.
- Language preferences — which language you choose to view or translate your resume into.
- Usage records — limited technical records needed to run the product, such as whether you've used your free tailored-resume generation.
- Basic product analytics — page views and specific interactions (for example, clicking Sign in or Sign up) via Google Analytics, where enabled. We do not use this to build an advertising profile of you.
How we use your information
- To parse your resume and show you a structured preview of it.
- To compare your resume against a job description and identify gaps.
- To generate a tailored version of your resume, on your request.
- To translate or localize your resume into another language, on your request.
- To enforce the limits of your current plan (for example, the free tier's generation cap).
- To respond to you if you contact support.
- To understand product usage well enough to improve it.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use your resume content to train third-party AI models.
Who we share it with
Providing this service requires sending parts of your data to a small number of specialized providers. We use as few as the product actually needs:
- Clerk — handles sign-in and account authentication.
- Microsoft Azure OpenAI — your resume text and any job description you provide are sent to Azure's AI models to power parsing, gap analysis, tailoring, and resume scoring. This is the core mechanism the product runs on.
- Azure Translator / Google Translate — used when you request a translation of your resume.
- FastSpring — when you purchase a paid plan, FastSpring processes payment and subscription billing as merchant of record. FastSpring receives billing contact details and payment information needed to complete your purchase; we receive confirmation of your plan and subscription status, not your full card details.
- Our database and hosting providers — store your data on the cloud infrastructure that runs the app.
- Google Analytics — receives page-view and interaction events, where enabled, to help us understand product usage.
Each of these providers only receives what's necessary for the specific function they perform — none of them get everything.
How long we keep your data
By default, an uploaded resume and everything derived from it (parsed content, analysis, tailored versions) is kept only for the length of your working session, and is automatically deleted after 24 hours of inactivity.
If you're signed in and choose to save a resume to your library, it's kept until you delete it yourself or close your account. You can remove a saved resume at any time from within the app.
International data transfers
JD VS Resume is used by people in many countries, and the providers listed above operate infrastructure in multiple regions, including the United States. If you're located outside the country where our servers or processors operate, your information will be transferred internationally to provide the service. We rely on our providers' own safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses, where applicable) for these transfers.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Delete your resume, your saved library, or your account entirely.
- Opt out of analytics tracking.
- Ask us what third parties your data has been shared with.
To exercise any of these, contact support@jdvsresume.com. We'll respond as promptly as we can.
Children's privacy
JD VS Resume is not directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we'll remove it.
Security
We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data — including restricting who can access it and using providers with their own security practices — but no method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security.
Changes to this policy
If we materially change what we collect or how we use it, we'll update the date at the top of this page. We encourage checking back periodically.
